JOE LOUIS MEMORIAL

Cobo Center
Detroit, Michigan

The Joe Louis competition began in 1984.  Upon winning the national competition, I began to create a representational likeness of the famous son of Detroit known fondly as the Brown Bomber.  The scale of the clay model was over 12’ high in the stance that Joe used when he fought.  Joe stands tall in the lobby of the newly developed Cobo Hall and Arena in downtown Detroit, Michigan.  It was cast by Fine Arts Sculpture Center in Clarkston, Michigan in 1987.
