Booker T. Washington was commissioned by Hampton University, formerly Hampton Institute, in 1983.  It was cast by Fine Arts Foundry in Clarkston, Michigan.  The 94 bronze realistic representation of Booker T. Washington rests on a six-foot granite base.  It was dedicated May 12, 1984.  Architects for the project were Livas & Associates of Norfolk, Virginia.
